There is blood in the soil and silence in the news.
There are children without food, without shelter, without names left to call out for.
There are voices vanishing into concrete walls and barbed wire camps, renamed for “order,” forgotten by design.
And I-just one person , with shaking hands and a heart too big for my body-can’t unsee what I’ve seen.
But I can speak. I can light a flame. I can send the scream upward.
This is a prayer for those who suffer. For those already gone. For those still clinging to life.
And it’s for us, too-those of us that can still act, still dream, still resist.
Spell/Ritual: “The Vigil Flame”
Purpose: To send protection, clarity, nourishment, and resistance through spiritual connection and collective will
What you’ll need:
- A white or black candle (white for peace and purity, black for mourning and strength)
- A bowl of water with a pinch of salt (to represent tears and cleansing)
- A spoonful of rice, lentils, or flour (as a symbol of nourishment and solidarity)
- A strip of cloth or paper
- A pen or charcoal
- Quiet place and your full heart
Steps:
1. Prepare the Space
- Sit with your items. Take a deep breath. Feel the ache in your chest, and know that it is a signal of love, not weakness.
2.Light the Candle
- As you strike the match, whisper:
“By this flame, I see the unseen. I remember the forgotten. I speak for the silenced.”
3.Add Salt to Water
- Let a few grains fall into the bowl and say:
“These are tears shed not just by me, but by the world. Let them purify, not drown.”
4.Hold the Food Gently in Your Harms
- As you do, say:
“May every empty belly be filled. May every outstretched hand be met with care.” Set it down beside the bowl.
5.Write on the Cloth or Paper
- Write names, places, or simply:
“No more cages. No more bombs. No more starvation. Let them live. Let us live.”
6.Pass the Paper or Cloth Through the Flame (Safely)
- Let the edges burn, or bury it in the soil later if you can’t burn. Say:
“I give this to the Stars, the Ancestors, the Divine. Carry it beyond my voice. Let it echo in the places I cannot reach.”
7.Sit in Silence for a Moment
- Feel your heart connect to theirs. Imagine thousands doing the same. A web of light, a shield of love and defiance.
8.End with These Words
“I will not forget you. I will not be silent. I will be your witness, your warrior, your voice.” So mote it be.
If this ritual moves you, share it. Modify it. Speak it aloud. Whisper it into your tea. Burn it into your art. The world doesn’t just need louder voices-it needs anchored one too. Yours, mine, Ours.

I do not and will never understand why people of any kind can look at other people who are suffering in the most tragic ways and ignore them. Even as I’m writing this, there are young children dying of pneumonia in a concrete box with next to no grown adult to take care of them, there are families desperately trying to find food for their children while mourning the tragic death of their people. What is happening around the globe right now is heartbreaking. The genocide going on in Gaza, the kidnapping and separating and imprisoning of our migrant population. IT’S UNFORGIVABLE! We cannot allow this horror to continue. Let’s Rise as One, We are All Earthlings!
