I’ve recently been doing the age-old hobby of making those friendship knot bracelets again and being the person I am, I put intention into them. So today I wanted to talk a little more about knot magic and a few different ways it can be performed or amended to fit your needs or skill set.

First off, always remember that all you need to perform magic is intention. Everything past that is for yourself or the person you’re doing the spell for. Now, knot magic is nice because it can be translated into bracelet making, crochet or knitting, and even into sewing if that’s how you want to do it. And then you have an item that can be worn or used when the intention is desired. Like for me, the bracelets I’ve been making are mostly for protection and for happiness. I want the people I make them for to smile and be safe, that’s the intention I thought about with each knot I made, rooting it into the object I made deeply.

Stitches can be substituted for knots as well. A sewing stitch, a crochet stitch, a knitting stitch, whatever is your chosen practice. You can even put intention into basket weaving! Magic is very versatile if you have imagination. Setting intention into any or all your crafts, especially wearable ones, is a good way for practitioners who aren’t open about it to make and wear amulets without being over the top.

There is a traditional knot spell that many people chant to help them set their intention;

Spell of Nine Knots
By knot of one, the spell’s begun,
By knot of two, it cometh true,
By knot of three, thus shall it be,
By knot of four, ‘tis strengthened more,
By knot of five, so may it thrive,
By knot of six, the spell we fix,
By knot of seven, the stars of heaven,
By knot of eight, the hand of fate,
By knot of nine, the thing is mine!

Topaz helped me make my first protection bracelet and we chanted this together while she tied the knots for me because I was not confident it would turn out looking right if I did it. I have since practiced.

Do you do knot magic or put intention into any other crafting projects? Do you use the spell of nine, or your own incantation? I would love to know!
