Life Update: Overcoming Challenges at Nyx’s Grove

Hello everyone!

I debated for a couple weeks on how we were going to put the last couple months into words in an update and explain what’s been going on… Unfortunately, not all of it is good, some of it really sucked, but I guess that’s life.

So, where do I begin. School started, which means it’s been hectic as shit for both me at my job as well as at home making sure everyone’s school work is getting done. We ended up having quite a bit of car trouble, but the universe smiled on us and we ended up being able to replace one of our vehicles with a new to us van! Which was awesome! Everyone loves it.

We’ve have been getting better at being better pagans too! We have been pretty consistent with our rituals and have actually seen real life results from several of them!

On the pagan note, we have also been vending at different craft shows and witchy type events and getting out and about and making a more productive name for ourselves and the shop which is great! People seem to really like our products so far. I’m hoping that over the next couple of weeks I’ll be able to get our shop page back up and running so everyone can see and shop our products online as well.

And with all the good that we have seen in the last couple months, it obviously will come with some bad situations. Unfortunately for anyone that may have been paying attention to our home page, we have parted ways with Lisa, or Topaz. She unfortunately was a toxic addition to our business as well as our lives and home. She essentially took advantage of the fact that we were letting her live with us after her ex-husband kicked her out two years ago. It was a long time to have someone not in our polycule living with us and the kids. And it cause several issues and as much as we tried to make it work and look past differences, or similarities in some cases, it just got to the point where we couldn’t do it any longer and it was going to cause more damage then it was worth.

And unfortunately, the issues with Lisa didn’t stop after her moving out. Seeing as she was part of the business, we had that to deal with as well. And for the sake of being open and honest with everyone, it has kind of been a shit show dealing with the fall out of removing her from the business. When we originally dealt with removing her from the business, we agreed that any products made would remain property of Nyx’s Grove. And we made sure to compensate her for her time in what was essentially a buy out of her share of the business. Obviously, as a “start-up” this wasn’t a massive amount of money, but there was also the fact that she had been living with us rent free for almost 2 years straight. Which didn’t come without it’s financial burdens. She agreed to this and the other “terms” we set forth.

You’d think that would be the end of it right? No. Of course not. We had made the decision to go through all of the products, some of which was not able to be sold due to quality issues, and take apart some of the unusable pieces. We also donated all of our bath products to a couple of shelters near us because we didn’t want to move forward with selling those specific scents and types of products. Lisa did not like this, and has taken every opportunity to say so on social media. Which was something we specifically agreed we wouldn’t do, bad mouth each other or the business on social media. I feel I should say that we only donated the products because we were specifically told to start supporting causes and donating by our tarot readings.

Now come to find out this week that she was starting her own business called Hera’s Witch Market that is supposed to be “competing” against us. Which is her right, she can do whatever she wants to do with her time and money. But we found out yesterday that she was using Nyx’s Grove products and photos to promote her new business AND to get into vending events, some of which the products had to be juried to be accepted. Now, admittedly, some of the products she was using were made by her, but not all of them, and they were not her products or photos to use anymore. Especially when all she did was screenshot the photos from our website/etsy page making it look like people were able to buy them from her.

We were not happy when we found this out, and made the decision that we wanted to make sure people knew that she was using OUR products to get into these events she was gloating about being in. Unfortunately for her, that resulted in her getting kicked out of at least one event and barred from any future events with the organization. As of writing this, we have yet to actually hear from her about the situation.

All that to say, it’s been an interesting couple of weeks readjusting to not having a “roommate”. More so with the business, we have kind of “restructured” how we plan to move forward for lack of a better word. We are pretty much going to continue moving forward with all the plans we had made, we are just a little more free in our planning not having to worry about appeasing someone who was stuck thinking the business should be ran like she ran her previous business, 15 years ago.

• More vending events where we can meet and sell things in person. I am working on building a calendar on the website to keep everyone informed of where we will be.
• More content on the blog

• Getting more content on our Nyx’s Grove YouTube channel and TikTok!
• And so much more!
