So, this week I thought I would write out a Self-Love Spell Jar Ritual that Serenity and I did. So far, we are still in the infancy of completing the ritual, so I don’t have an update on how it worked, and we did it a little bit differently than how it is written here.

Items to gather:

  • Candles
    • Yellow, Red, Blue, Green, Purple for the elements
    • White for spell work (we used a glass pillar candle we specifically dressed for this ritual and a future ritual)
    • Any other color you want on the altar that could indicate self-love.
  • Herbs
    • Sugar for sweetness you yourself, can be substituted with honey if needed/wanted.
    • Rose petals for self-love and attracting beauty.
    • Pink Himalayan Salt for protection and purification
    • Rosemary to stop gossip and to help with memory
    • Sage to cleanse your energy
    • Lavender for calming/rid anxiety
    • Cinnamon Sticks to help warm yourself up to you.
  • Glass Jar with Lid
  • Crystals (Not necessary aside from the rose quartz)
    • Rose Quartz (for the jar)
    • Selenite
    • Sodalite
    • Citrine
    • Red Jasper
    • Moonstone
    • Carnelian
  • Smudge Stick and anything you would normally use
  • Something to tie the spell to you like hair, blood, saliva, a picture, or a personal item you are okay with using. (For the jar)
  • Anything you may want to dress the outside of the jar with. (This is completely optional; it is not necessary.)

Prep work

Gather all your items needed and set up your altar in a way that feels right to you. I personally will get all my herbs together in a separate bowl before the ritual, so for something like this, I would put the herbs in the jar and have everything else sitting by it. I would also set aside some of the herbs that went into the jar for incense, but that isn’t necessary because the ritual itself won’t actually use the cauldron.

We did this ritual inside our living room, so we marked out the circle with a mixture of salt, sage, and lavender. If you plan on doing this outside, I would replace the salt with powdered eggshells because salt is damaging to the earth.

Mark the circle or area that you plan on performing your magic. This would also be where you could light any decorative candles or light incense if you plan on using them.

Once everything is situated, your space is marked, and your altar is set up, you are ready to start the ritual.

Ritual Start

Sit in the middle of your circle in front of your altar. Take a few deep breaths and center yourself and focus on your intent. Start calling the elements by saying the following, lighting the respective candle as you go:

“Love and light, we call thee to this magic place,
Join us now, through time and space.
Mind, Body, Spirit, and Heart,
Make sacred this space, a world apart.
Bless us now with elements five,
Air, Fire, Water, Earth, and Spirit come alive!
Our cause is true, our magic just,
Open this circle with perfect love and perfect trust!”

With the circle open and the elements called, take the smudge stick and ask each element to please the herbs and the smoke to help clean yourself and your space. Light the smudge stick using the candles and proceed to cleansing yourself and the space you are in. Make sure to smudge the jar you plan on using as well.

Light the spell candle.

Once everything is cleansed properly, take your jar and start putting the herbs in and say:

“With these herbs I plead to thee,
Aphrodite, enhance the love within me.”

Once all the herbs are in the jar, collect the stones you intend to put in the jar and say the following while putting them in:

“Crystals and Gems, Stones and Rocks,
With this spell, self-hatred shall be blocked!”

With the stones now in the jar, take whatever you are planning on using as a tie to you, and concentrate on feeling love for yourself while you hold the item. Let your energy pour into the item and carry you’re love for yourself into the spell jar. If you plan on using any form of body fluid for this, first off, make sure if you are doing this with someone else, be safe! And second, focus on the love and energies as you collect the fluids.

After that, place whatever token you choose into the jar and say the following:

“Contained within this jar I cast,
A token of myself to last.
A bond between it and me,
To last until it needs to be.”

Replace the lid back on the jar and take the spell candle and seal the top of the jar with the melted wax of the candle. While sealing the top of the candle say the following:

“Sealed and bound this spell shall be,
To heal and grow the love I feel for me.
Goddess of Love, please share your might,
And shine on me your loving light!”

With the jar completely sealed, return it to the altar and get prepared to complete the spell portion of the ritual.

Focus on feeling yourself connect to the jar, feeling the loving energy pour from you and into your body. Filling you with a sense of love and happiness that you are looking for.

Say the following to finish the spell:

“With Aphrodite’s blessing and her loving aide,
Against these negative thoughts my mind will barricade.
Feelings and emotions tied,
My magic now shall shift the tide.
Herb, Stone, and Token combine,
My newfound light will forever shine.
Self-love will now become my guide,
To a happy life, that’s full of pride.
With every blessing from elements five,
Their call will strengthen and keep this magic alive!
So my will has been said, and so shall it be,
As I do will it, So Mote It Be!”

Leave the spell candle lit for as long as possible. The longer the candle can be lit, the longer the energy of the ritual will be flowing into your spell work.

At this point in the ritual, I would suggest that you meditate on your spell work and try to focus on different things that you love about yourself.

When you are ready to close out the ritual, you can follow the normal dismissal of the ritual. Just make sure that you give thanks to Aphrodite for aiding you in your ritual and the elements for their help as well.

Once the ritual and circle is all closed, feel free to clean up the ritual and everything, but keep the spell jar and the candle out. We left our jars and candles sitting on our living room altar that way they can continue to siphon energy to strengthen the spell. Obviously, if you are not able to leave yours out, that is fine too. I would just make sure to pull them out of hiding once a month and light the candle again and meditate on your spell work to recharge the magic, this can be done during a typical full moon ritual.

What do you think of this ritual? Have you tried something like this? How did it go? Or if you plan on trying this one, let me know in the comments!
