This week I made a decision. Instead of writing a normal post, I am going to write out one of the rituals I came up with a while back. Don’t get me wrong. Legally, I can’t claim that this will do anything. However, it always seemed to help me when we did it. If you feel like something is wrong medically, please see an actual doctor. Do not rely on a ritual posted online.

Here’s another disclaimer. I would suggest doing this ritual outside. It will leave a mess. You might have to clean it up if you don’t mind.

Simple Purification Ritual

Things you should collect before starting:

  • A table for the altar. Placing everything on the ground will also work.
  • Candles: I generally use several different colors. If you can’t use candles, that is fine, those fake tea lights work just as well.
    • Yellow for air
    • Red for fire
    • Blue for water
    • Green for Earth
    • Purple for spirit
    • White for purification/spell work
  • I personally like to have a few crystals on my altar, but this isn’t necessary.
  • A small bowl for water
  • A small bowl for salt
  • A small plate and cup for offering
  • Some form of offering, normally some form of bread/cookie and wine/juice.
  • Herbs:
    • Salt
    • Sage
    • Lavender
  • Smudge Stick (I personally like to use a sage smudge stick, but incense will work fine too)

That is everything that I would normally use for a purification ritual, but seriously, none of it is necessary. The only thing you need for this to be successful is the right mind set.

Ritual prep

  • Set up the alter
    • Take the table and set it in the middle of an open space and set the candles up
      • Yellow – East, Red – South, Blue – West, Green – North, Purple and White in the center
    • Put the bowl of water and salt next to the respective candles.
    • Put the bell next to the yellow candle
    • Place the offering cup/plate where you feel they fit, with the offering on/in them.
  • Take the salt, sage, and lavender and mix it together and spread it around the perimeter of the ritual area.
  • I generally like to take a few minutes to clear my mind and meditate on the intention of my spell work.

Starting the ritual

Start from the east of the area and walk your area clockwise with your hand pointed towards the ground. Envision energy drawing the perimeter of your space where the salt mixture is. This is energetically creating your sacred area for your ritual. You can also chant a circle calling here, I normally something like this:

“Round this circle is cast, joining energies future and past, a sacred space this site will be, as I do will it, so mote it be.”

Now that your space is set up, the next step is to call the corners, or elements. Some people start in the North, or Earth, but I personally prefer to start with the East, or Air. Light each corresponding candle as you call each element.

“I call to the East and the element Air. Join this circle, gift me with your breath and wisdom. Blow through this space and push away the negativity in me and this area.

I call to the South and the element Fire. Join this circle, gift me with your passion and warmth. Spread through this space and drive away the negativity in me and this area.

I call to the West and the element Water. Join this circle, gift me with your cleansing and purity. Flow through this space and wash away the negativity in me and this area.

I call to the North and the element Earth. Join this circle, gift me with your calm and strength. Ground this space and remove all the negativity in me and this area.

I call to all and nothing and the element of Spirit. Join this circle, gift me with your serenity and love. Spread through this space and push out all the negativity in me and this area.”

Now that the quarters are called, you’ll want to take a moment and take in the energies that are around you. When you are ready to move forward, you will want to start the magic portion of your ritual. Light the white candle and say:

“As this candle’s flame burns bright, fill my life with its pure light. Purify and cleanse my life, push away all my pain and strife.”

At this point, take the smudge stick or incense and use the white candle to light it and start wafting the smoke around your body, and say the following:

“Cleansing smoke flow through this place, clean and purify this space. Flow around and stay with me, cleanse and purify, so mote it be.”

Set the smudge stick down in a fire safe dish, and let it smoke. Close your eyes and envision the smoke flowing around you, wrapping around your body and resting on your skin. Picture yourself healthy and happy.

When you feel the time is right, move on to the offering, going around the circle, take a sip and bite for each element/corner called, telling them you are eating/drinking for them.

By this point, the ritual is mostly over, you can spend as long as you want basking in the energies. When you are ready to close the circle, here is what I normally do. (Actually, that’s a lie, normally I get so spent with the ritual we tend to lazily close the circle lol.)

Going in reverse order, blow out the element/corner candles while saying:

“Thank you, Spirit, for joining this circle and lending me your energy, you are free to leave.
Thank you, Earth, for joining this circle and lending me your strength, you are free to leave.
Thank you, Water, for joining this circle and lending me your purity, you are free to leave.
Thank you, Fire, for joining this circle and lending me your passion, you are free to leave.
Thank you, Air, for joining this circle and lending me your wisdom, you are free to leave.”

Now that you have released the elements, you will want to close the circle. You can do that by walking the perimeter counterclockwise picturing the energy around you dissipating saying:

“This circle is open but unbroken. Circle round, now be unbound.”

Leave the spell candle lit for as long as possible as long as it is safe to do so. It will help keep the spell going longer. There you go. The first of probably many rituals that will be put onto this site. I hope you like it. 😊
