Safire’s Thoughts on “Witch Types”

Sorry in advance, this is going to be shorter.  

So, the other day I was scrolling through Facebook, and I came across a post about the different types of witches, and how the person that posted it didn’t like the concept. It got me thinking, the whole “witch type” thing really is kind of a shitty concept.  

For those of you that don’t know what I’m talking about, there are quite a bit of Pagans that consider themselves witches. There is also a subsection of these witches that will go even further and separate themselves into different types of witches. This can be a multitude of different types including plant, kitchen, book, technology, chaos, elemental, etc. Pretty much anything you can think of could be considered one of these ”types”, there can also be subsections of these types. For example, you can consider yourself a “Kitchen Witch”, by primarily focus on being a “Baking Witch”. 

Back to the post I saw, the person was saying that they didn’t understand why anyone would want to section themselves off from part of their craft, and that everyone should keep an open mind to everything that might happen, because you never know what you might need in life. And honestly, I never even thought of it like that. But it was actually a really good point. It really is limiting yourself to one specific niche, and to me, that doesn’t seem like a good idea.  

I mean, I never really thought of myself as a certain type of witch, I have never really felt like I aligned with anything specific enough to put myself in a “type”. Maybe subconsciously I always thought like this? I guess I have always preferred to keep myself open to all aspects of my craft. I never wanted to wall myself off from certain aspects.  

Again, I am sorry for the short post this week, I thought about shifting this into going over the ”main” types of witches, and we still might make that post in the future, but it didn’t feel right to try, and rush add it to this one.
